©️ Minouk Lim
An exploration of the fluid boundaries of the city, of Tokyo.
A boat-tour performance and exhibition by leading Korean artist, Minouk Lim.

Minouk Lim is one of Korea’s leading artists. Traversing art and politics, the past and the present, the individual and collective, her work employs various methods to awaken forgotten and hidden voices and beings in contemporary society. Lim’s work has been shown continuously on the international art scene, including in Japan at the Setouchi Triennale 2016 and Aichi Triennale 2019.
Lim was awarded the Visions of the City – Obayashi Foundation Research Program grant and, as the culmination of two years of research and production in Japan, she will simultaneously present a tour performance on a yakatabune (a traditional Japanese leisure boat) on the Sumida River and Tokyo Bay, and an exhibition at Komagome SOKO. The title, Hyper Yellow, which points to a color that transcends descriptions of a specific shade or race, represents the fragile boundaries and relationships that exist nowhere and everywhere. In this tour performance where viewers will fluidly transcend boundaries, notions of history, nation, faith, ecology and geography are rearranged through the interplay of music, audio guides, and riverside happenings.

Profile

Minouk Lim
Minouk Lim (b. 1968) is an artist of many forms and has been creating works that are beyond the boundary of different genres and media, deepening the scope of questions while encompassing writing, music, video, installation, and performance as her modes of artistic expression. Lim’s practice recalls historic losses, ruptures, and repressed traumas. Rooted in language, and specifically, the politics of expression, her work does not replay past events, rather, they elevate the experiences, memories, and feelings through the means of imagining or engaging structural beings of non-human witnesses in her performative sculptural objects and installations.
