Reframe Lab is a platform that brings together art, education, medical care, and social welfare through forms of play and learning that nurture rich imaginations. They have engaged in a number of projects with the philosophy that providing care involves fostering vulnerability without fear of rejection.
Morumetamo, an animation and picture book produced amidst the pandemic, is a story of metamorphosis in which the body becomes water, a bird, an insect, finally part of the cosmos. Playing with one’s own transformations also represents an authentic experiment in utilizing wisdom garnered from the theater.
For this collaborative workshop with Theater Commons Tokyo, Reframe Lab focused on the nameless games — for example, stepping on only the white parts of the crosswalk — that we all played when we were small, teaming up with children to develop forms of play structured by unique stories and rules. With adults joining in on these movements and expressions, the workshop will create new opportunities to accept each other’s inner abstract worlds.

Reframe Lab
Reframe Lab is a project based in Tokyo run by psychiatrists, curators, educators, interpreters, and practitioners from performing arts, building the ecosystem to connect art, education, medical care and welfare since 2018. Their work encompasses playing and learning to create environments that foster imagination to “reframe” the world from different angles.

How to participate
Free / Booking essential.
– Intended for elementary school students and their parents
– Capacity: 10 groups of around 20 people per workshop (in case of high demand, entry will be allocated by lottery. Residents of Minato ward have priority.)
– Application period: January 21st–February 9th, 2022 (applicants will be notified of the results by email within two days of application deadline)
